
Active Dampers
Active dampers are devices used to reduce vibrations and oscillations in spacecraft and launch vehicles during launch and in-orbit operations. They work by sensing the vibrations and oscillations and producing counteracting forces to reduce their effects. Active dampers can be used to reduce the structural loads on the spacecraft and its components, improve the pointing accuracy of instruments, and increase the lifetime of the spacecraft. They are particularly useful in reducing the effects of vibrations caused by the rocket engines during launch and the disturbances caused by the movement of mechanical components in orbit. Active dampers can be implemented using a variety of techniques, including piezoelectric materials, magneto-rheological fluids, and electro-hydraulic systems.
