Absorber Plate


In the context of space and astronautical engineering, an absorber plate is a component of a solar collector that absorbs solar radiation and converts it into heat. The absorber plate is typically made of a material with high thermal conductivity, such as copper or aluminum, and is coated with a selective surface that has a high absorptivity for solar radiation and a low emissivity for thermal radiation. The absorbed solar radiation is then transferred to a fluid, such as water or air, that flows through the absorber plate and carries the heat to a heat exchanger or storage system. Absorber plates are used in a variety of solar thermal applications, including solar water heaters, solar air heaters, and solar thermal power plants.
