Thermoelectric Coolers


Thermoelectric coolers (TECs) are solid-state heat pumps that use the Peltier effect to transfer heat from one side of the device to the other. TECs are commonly used in space and astronautical engineering applications to cool electronic components, detectors, and other sensitive equipment. TECs are compact, lightweight, and have no moving parts, making them ideal for use in space where traditional cooling methods such as convection and radiation are less effective. However, TECs have lower cooling capacities and efficiencies compared to traditional cooling methods, and their performance is highly dependent on the temperature difference across the device. TECs are also sensitive to thermal cycling and mechanical stress, which can lead to device failure over time.
