Spacecraft Autonomy


Spacecraft autonomy refers to the ability of a spacecraft to operate and make decisions without human intervention. This includes the ability to perform tasks such as navigation, guidance, and control, as well as the ability to detect and respond to anomalies or unexpected events. Spacecraft autonomy is becoming increasingly important as missions become more complex and as spacecraft travel further from Earth, where communication delays make real-time control difficult. Autonomy can also improve mission efficiency and reduce costs by reducing the need for ground-based control and support. However, developing and testing autonomous systems is a significant challenge, requiring advanced software and hardware, as well as extensive testing and validation.
