
Space Environment Monitor (SEM)
Space Environment Monitor (SEM) is a suite of instruments designed to measure the space environment around a spacecraft. The SEM instruments measure the flux of charged particles, magnetic fields, and plasma waves in the space environment. The SEM data is used to monitor the space weather conditions and to predict the effects of space weather on spacecraft and their systems. The SEM instruments are typically located on the exterior of the spacecraft to provide unobstructed views of the space environment. The SEM instruments are designed to operate in the harsh space environment and are radiation hardened to withstand the effects of ionizing radiation.
