Small Thrusters


Small thrusters are propulsion systems that generate small amounts of thrust, typically in the range of millinewtons to a few newtons, and are used for attitude control, station keeping, and trajectory correction of spacecraft. They are also used for small orbital maneuvers, such as formation flying, docking, and rendezvous. Small thrusters can be either chemical or electric, and can use a variety of propellants, such as hydrazine, nitrogen tetroxide, xenon, and krypton. They are usually mounted in clusters on the spacecraft, and are controlled by an onboard computer. Small thrusters are critical for the success of many space missions, as they enable precise pointing and positioning of the spacecraft, and ensure that it stays on course. They are also important for reducing the risk of collisions with other spacecraft and debris in orbit.
