RR Lyrae Variables
RR Lyrae variables are a type of pulsating variable star commonly found in globular clusters. They are named after the prototype star RR Lyrae, which is located in the constellation Lyra. RR Lyrae stars are low-mass, old stars that have exhausted the hydrogen in their cores and are now fusing helium. They pulsate with periods ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 days and have relatively low luminosities. RR Lyrae stars are important distance indicators, as their pulsation periods are directly related to their intrinsic luminosities. They are also used to study the structure and evolution of globular clusters, as their distribution within a cluster can provide information about the cluster's age and metallicity.
