International Flight Information Regions


International Flight Information Regions (FIRs) are the areas of airspace for which specific countries or groups of countries are responsible for providing air traffic services. These regions are defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and are crucial for maintaining order and safety in global aviation. Each FIR is managed by a Flight Information Service (FIS) that provides advice and information useful for the safe and efficient conduct of flights. This includes meteorological information, information on runway closures, and other temporary changes. The boundaries of FIRs are not necessarily aligned with political or geographical boundaries, and their size can vary greatly. They can cover parts of several countries or even entire oceans. The primary purpose of FIRs is to ensure that all aircraft flying in their airspace receive consistent services, regardless of their point of origin or destination. This includes air traffic control services, flight planning, weather services, and emergency assistance.
