
Geostationary Weather Satellites
Geostationary weather satellites are Earth-orbiting satellites that remain in a fixed position over a specific point on the equator, allowing them to continuously monitor weather patterns and atmospheric conditions in a specific region. These satellites provide real-time data on cloud cover, temperature, precipitation, and other meteorological variables, which is used to generate weather forecasts and track severe weather events. Geostationary weather satellites typically orbit at an altitude of approximately 36,000 kilometers above the Earth's surface, and are equipped with advanced sensors and imaging technology that allow them to capture high-resolution images of the Earth's surface. The data collected by these satellites is transmitted to ground stations, where it is processed and analyzed by meteorologists and other weather experts.
