
Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service
The Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (GNOS) is a system developed to improve the accuracy, integrity, and availability of navigation signals provided by various Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). It is a type of Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) that uses geostationary satellites to broadcast correction data and integrity information to GNSS receivers. The GNOS operates by receiving signals from GNSS satellites, processing these signals in ground-based stations to determine any errors, and then transmitting the error information to geostationary satellites. These satellites then broadcast the corrected signals back to Earth, where they can be received by GNSS receivers. This process significantly improves the accuracy of position, velocity, and time estimates provided by GNSS. The GNOS is particularly useful in aviation, where it can enhance the safety and efficiency of flight operations by providing more accurate and reliable navigation information.
