
Field Of View
Field of view (FOV) is the extent of the observable world that is seen at any given moment through a particular instrument or device. In space and astronautical engineering, FOV is an important concept in designing and operating spacecraft, telescopes, and other instruments. The FOV of a spacecraft camera or sensor determines the area of the Earth or other celestial body that can be imaged at any given time. The FOV of a telescope determines the size of the patch of sky that can be observed at any given time. The FOV of a spacecraft's attitude control system determines the range of motion that can be detected and corrected. FOV is also important in determining the accuracy of navigation and guidance systems. In general, a larger FOV allows for a wider range of observations, but may sacrifice resolution or sensitivity.
