Direct Current


Direct current (DC) is the flow of electric charge in a single direction. In space and astronautical engineering, DC is commonly used to power spacecraft systems and instruments. DC power is often generated by solar panels or nuclear power sources and is used to charge batteries or power electrical systems directly. DC power is preferred over alternating current (AC) in space applications due to its simplicity and reliability. AC power requires complex and heavy transformers and inverters to convert the power to the correct voltage and frequency, while DC power can be used directly or easily converted to the required voltage. DC power is also less susceptible to electromagnetic interference, making it ideal for sensitive instruments and communication systems.
