Controlled Airspace


In the context of aerospace engineering, 'Controlled Airspace' refers to an airspace of defined dimensions within which air traffic control service is provided to IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flights and to VFR (Visual Flight Rules) flights in accordance with the airspace classification. It is a generic term that covers Class A, B, C, D, and E airspace. The level of control varies, but it is always designed to ensure the safety and efficiency of air traffic. In controlled airspace, aircraft operators are subject to certain flight rules, which may include speed restrictions, minimum altitudes, and requirements for communications with air traffic control. The dimensions of controlled airspace can encompass a large area, such as the airspace over an entire country, or it can be limited to the airspace around an airport. The purpose of controlled airspace is to prevent collisions between aircraft and to organize the flow of air traffic to minimize delays.
