Atmospheric Distortion

Atmospheric distortion refers to the phenomenon where the Earth's atmosphere causes a deviation in the path of electromagnetic waves, such as light or radio waves, as they travel through it. This distortion can cause images of celestial objects, such as stars or planets, to appear blurry or distorted when viewed through a telescope or other optical instrument. The distortion is caused by variations in temperature and density within the atmosphere, which bend the path of the waves. Astronomers use various techniques to correct for atmospheric distortion, such as adaptive optics or interferometry, in order to obtain clearer images of celestial objects.
